Dear Representative English,
I am writing to you today to urge your support of H.R. 1210, the Digital Media Consumers’ Rights Act of 2005. In particular, if such is needed, I urge your support for discharge to the floor should this much-needed legislation get bottled up in committee.
This legislation is badly needed to correct severe excesses in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). In particular, the protection of fair use of copyrighted content as well as the means by which fair use is to be provided both require clarification and protection.
Furthermore, as demonstrated by the recent debacle with Sony BMG and their rootkit-infected compact discs, consumers need to be warned in advance about copy protection schemes put into use by digital content creators.
Sincerely yours,
Chris BeHanna
